Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) vice president Tendai Biti has endorsed Nelson Chamisa as his preferred presidential candidate for this year\u2019s elections.<\/p>\n

CCC will on Wednesday (today), select candidates to represent the party for the presidency, senate, parliament, council, youth, and women\u2019s quota.<\/p>\n

Posting on Twitter, Tendai Biti said CCC has \u201cone candidate for the position of President\u201d Nelson Chamisa. He wrote:<\/p>\n

Tomorrow citizens nominate servants to stand as candidates in this year\u2019s plebiscite & to serve for the next five years.<\/p>\n

We only have one candidate for the position of President. Our champion in chief Advocate Nelson Chamisa God bless Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n

CCC, which was formed just over a year ago, decided against holding primary elections to select its candidates preferring what they have termed \u201ccitizens consensus\u201d for fear of being infiltrated by State security agents.<\/p>\n

CCC deputy spokesperson Ostallos Siziba on Tuesday told reporters that the party had established a panel that will be responsible for the selection process.<\/p>\n

He said the panel is drawn from competent individuals in communities, civic spaces, and political movements, among others.<\/p>\n

Rashid Mahiya will lead the panel that will oversee the candidate selection process.<\/p>\n

Siziba sought to assure party supporters that the process will be held in a transparent manner and represent the interests of communities. He said:<\/p>\n

We have set a robust and transparent process that will ensure that only the best candidates will represent us as presidential candidate senators, members of parliament, councillors, proportional representatives and young people. We have deployed our technical teams and leaders to different parts of the country.<\/p>\n

The center of this consensus candidate selection is our rhythm which is about putting citizens back at the center.<\/p>\n

So we make the emphasis because we believe that our processes must be reflective of the collective will of citizens in different parts of the country.<\/p>\n

The ruling ZANU PF party has already conducted its primaries amid reports of violence in some constituencies.<\/p>\n

As a result, ZANU PF will have election reruns in Gokwe Nembudziya, Insiza North, and Zvimba West.<\/p>\n
