Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>The government has declared the Timboom Coaches bus accident a national disaster.<\/p>\n

The accident occurred on Sunday morning at the 5-kilometre peg along the Chivhu-Murambinda Road.<\/p>\n

The Harare-bound Timboom Coaches bus that had 40 passengers on board veered off the road and crashed, killing 12 people on the spot including the driver.<\/p>\n

Another passenger died while admitted to Chivhu Hospital.<\/p>\n

On Monday, 17 April, Transport and Infrastructure Development Minister Felix Mhona toured the accident scene.<\/p>\n

He was accompanied by the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland East Apolonia Munzverengi, officials from his ministry, and members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police, among others.<\/p>\n

Mhona also visited the injured who are admitted at Chivhu Hospital and also consoled the bereaved families.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, the ZRP said they were yet to ascertain the cause of the accident but preliminary investigations indicate it was caused by speeding.<\/p>\n

In recent years in Zimbabwe road accidents have been attributed to speeding, overtaking error, not giving way, following too close, reversing error, negligent pedestrian\/ cyclists and fatigue.<\/p>\n
