Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>The President of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), Chief Fortune Charumbira, has urged the two warring camps in the Sudan conflict to lay down their arms and resolve their differences through mediation and dialogue.<\/p>\n

Heavy fighting erupted in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, and in other parts of the country on Saturday between regular soldiers and members of a paramilitary force \u2013 Rapid Support Forces (RSF).<\/p>\n

United Nations envoy Volker Perthes said that at least 185 people have been killed and over 1 800 wounded since the fighting erupted.<\/p>\n

The two sides in the Sudan conflict are using tanks, artillery and other heavy weapons in densely populated areas.<\/p>\n

In a recent statement, Charumbira called for dialogue between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary force to prevent any further loss of life. Reads the statement:<\/p>\n

The President of the Pan African Parliament, Hon. Chief Fortune Zephania Charumbira, has noted with grave concern the outbreak and escalation of armed conflict between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), that has resulted in the death of at least three civilians and injuries to countless others.<\/p>\n

The latest outbreak of violence which, regrettably, comes during the holy month of Ramadan, can only but reverse the significant gains that the Republic of Sudan had made in the quest for peace, stability and post-conflict recovery over the last two years.<\/p>\n

Clearly, there can be no winner in this conflict.<\/p>\n

In that regard, the Pan African Parliament implores all parties involved to settle their differences through mediation and dialogue to prevent any further loss of invaluable Sudanese lives and work towards the restoration of lasting peace and stability in the country and the region.<\/p>\n

The Pan-African Parliament remains committed to contributing to peace and security in Sudan and the entire continent through parliamentary diplomacy and dialogue.<\/p>\n

Charumbira, who is the President of the Chief\u2019s Council of Zimbabwe, was recently reported for indecent assault by his married niece who is a teacher at a school in Masvingo.<\/p>\n

He allegedly sexually abused his 27-year-old married niece on two occasions.<\/p>\n
