{"id":7899,"date":"2019-04-23T18:02:12","date_gmt":"2019-04-23T18:02:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/zimbabwe\/?p=7899"},"modified":"2019-04-23T18:02:12","modified_gmt":"2019-04-23T18:02:12","slug":"zimbabwes-econet-plots-botswana-mascom-listing-by-october","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.cc\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/zimbabwes-econet-plots-botswana-mascom-listing-by-october","title":{"rendered":"Zimbabwe&#8217;s Econet plots Botswana Mascom listing by October"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>GABORONE (Reuters) &#8211; Zimbabwean billionaire\u00a0Strive Masiyiwa plans to list part of his Botswana telecoms operator Mascom by October this year, he said on Tuesday, in what he expects to be one of the biggest flotations on the Gaborone bourse.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Masiyiwa, through his holding company Econet, is finalizing a $300 million deal with South African rival MTN Group to raise his stake in Mascom from 7 percent to 60 percent.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThis is what I have always wanted to\u00a0do &#8230;I have never held enough shareholding to push it through,\u201d he told reporters.<\/p>\n<p>He said more details would be provided in due course but said he anyone who can raise $10 should be able to buy shares in Mascom, which Econet valued at more than $600 million when it agreed to buy out MTN\u2019s 53 percent holding.<\/p>\n<p>Masiyiwa founded Mascom 21 years ago, a few months before\u00a0he set up Econet in Zimbabwe. It is Botswana\u2019s biggest mobile operator with 1.7 million customers.
