{"id":79233,"date":"2023-06-18T22:18:25","date_gmt":"2023-06-18T20:18:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/ccc-supporters-accused-of-destroying-zanu-pf-posters-acquitted"},"modified":"2023-06-18T22:18:25","modified_gmt":"2023-06-18T20:18:25","slug":"ccc-supporters-accused-of-destroying-zanu-pf-posters-acquitted","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.cc\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/ccc-supporters-accused-of-destroying-zanu-pf-posters-acquitted","title":{"rendered":"CCC Supporters Accused Of Destroying ZANU PF Posters Acquitted"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>Two Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) supporters were last week acquitted on charges of tearing political campaign posters belonging to a ZANU PF candidate in Manicaland.<\/p>\n<p>The Standard reported that the duo, Zephenia Nyangani and Learnmore Makuwaza who reside in Mboto village in Mutasa District, were arrested on 10 December 2022.<\/p>\n<p>They were charged with the destruction of political posters as defined in section 152(1) of the Electoral Act.<\/p>\n<p>Nyangani and Makuwaza\u2019s trial commenced on 20 May 2023 at Mutasa Magistrates Court.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors alleged that the duo defaced posters belonging to ZANU PF local government candidate, Regina Barara, ahead of a pending by-election.<\/p>\n<p>Nyangani and Makuwaza were accused of tearing the posters when they were pasting and affixing posters of their CCC political party candidate in Ward 6.<\/p>\n<p>Their lawyer, David Tandiri of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) applied for their discharge on the grounds that prosecutors failed to prove a prima facie case against the two CCC supporters.<\/p>\n<p>He also argued that state witnesses, who testified during the trial gave contradictory and inconsistent testimonies.<\/p>\n<p>Magistrate Artwell Sanyatwe agreed with Tandiri\u2019s arguments and ruled that one of the state witnesses had exonerated Nyangani and Makuwaza in the commission of the alleged offence.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/zimbabwe\">Zimbabwe<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Zimbabwe.
