Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>The opposition MDC has refuted social media claims that the party\u2019s property has been disposed of after it failed to field candidates in less than half of the 210 constituencies and its presidential candidate Douglas Mwonzora withdrew from the race.<\/p>\n

In a statement, MDC Treasurer-General Brian Dube said the party\u2019s property is safe and is being safeguarded by the party\u2019s leadership. Reads the statement:<\/p>\n

Over the past few days, social media has been awash with news that the party property has been disposed of.<\/p>\n

This news is completely false and was deliberately meant to bring ill-feeling against the leadership.<\/p>\n

We have traced these false statements to bitter former top leadership who have since left the party.<\/p>\n

The information is also meant to justify the violence that these people were inciting against top leaders of the party through social media.<\/p>\n

Our leaders are men and women of integrity who have safeguarded party property for years.<\/p>\n

The people\u2019s property is safe. The people\u2019s project is being reset and there is no going back.<\/p>\n

Since the court reconstructed the MDC through a controversial court ruling in March 2020, the once-formidable party has failed to win a single seat.<\/p>\n

Dozens of parliamentary seats and scores of wards have been contested in by-elections since 2022 and the MDC failed to win a single seat.<\/p>\n
