Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>The State has dropped attempted murder charges against Maureen Kademaunga <\/b>an opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC)<\/b> Member of Parliament (MP) for Sunningdale.<\/p>\n

Kademaunga was arrested on Tuesday together with Councilor for Ward 10, Clayd Mashozhera (49), and Daudi Jessub (40) for attempted murder and malicious damage to property. The newly-elected legislator who has been facing three counts of attempted and one count of malicious damage to property, spent the night in police custody. In a statement seen by Pindula News, police national spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the incident in question occurred on August 23, 2023, when three complainants were attacked near Metro-Peech in Harare.<\/p>\n

CCC MP Maureen Kademaunga, Councillor Mashozhera Arrested<\/b><\/p>\n

But the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) dropped the charges this Wednesday citing a lack of evidence linking her to the case. The State said it would proceed by way of summons.<\/p>\n

Commenting on the development the CCC party said Kademaunga should never have been arrested in the first place because she is innocent. Added the party on X (formerly Twitter):<\/p>\n

This was a clear case of persecution by the regime against our members.<\/p>\n

The party believes that the arrest of Kademaunga and other members is a means for the ZANU PF<\/b> government to punish them for supporting CCC leader Nelson Chamisa and rejecting the presidential election results. The CCC condemned the results and called for fresh elections supervised and monitored by independent bodies such as SADC, the African Union and the United Nations instead of the \u201cbiased\u201d Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking to members of the media after the charges had been robbed, Kademaunga\u2019s lawyer, Harrison Nkomo <\/b>said the NPA did not have an \u201ciota of evidence\u201d linking Kademaunga to the alleged crime and to that end she has been released.<\/p>\n
