Constitutional reforms, land policy and currency issues came under the spotlight when United Kingdom (UK) Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Melanie Robinson paid a courtesy call on the Zanu PF Secretary for Administration, Dr Obert Mpofu this Tuesday at the party\u2019s headquarters, in Harare.<\/p>\n
Relations between Zimbabwe and the UK went sour in 2000 when the government of Zimbabwe embarked on the land reform programme which saw the country being removed from the commonwealth group.<\/p>\n
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Ambassador Robinson said the meeting was meant to express their support to President Emmerson Mnangagwa\u2019s economic and political reforms process and to find ways of improving relations between the two countries.<\/p>\n
\u201dWe had a good opportunity to discuss Zimbabwe and UK relations and the more Zimbabwe is able to reform the more UK is going to re-engage,\u201d said Ambassador Robinson.<\/p>\n
Dr Mpofu said the British envoy is keen to see Zimbabwe returning to the commonwealth.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur relations with the UK are getting better since the Cyclone Idai natural disaster, where Zimbabwe was assisted by the royal family,\u201d said Dr Mpofu.<\/p>\n
The meeting was also attended by Zanu PF Secretary for Production and Labour, Cde Josiah Hungwe, Secretary for Health, Cde Cleveria Chizema and Dr Sydney Sekeramayi, among other party members.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
