{"id":86679,"date":"2023-11-13T21:44:48","date_gmt":"2023-11-13T19:44:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/sengezo-tshabangu-defended-mnangagwa-before-motlanthe-commission-in-2018"},"modified":"2023-11-14T00:56:28","modified_gmt":"2023-11-13T22:56:28","slug":"sengezo-tshabangu-defended-mnangagwa-before-motlanthe-commission-in-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.cc\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/sengezo-tshabangu-defended-mnangagwa-before-motlanthe-commission-in-2018","title":{"rendered":"Sengezo Tshabangu Defended Mnangagwa Before Motlanthe Commission In 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>Citizens\u2019 Coalition for Change (CCC) self-imposed interim secretary general Sengezo Tshabangu has been described as \u201ca tortoise on a lamppost\u201d after he initiated the recalls of scores of the party\u2019s representatives thereby triggering by-elections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTortoise on a lamppost\u201d is a phrase used to describe someone who gained success through others\u2019 efforts, not his or her own.<\/p>\n<p>Tshabangu was among members of the public who appeared before a Commission headed by former South African President Kgalema Motlanthe to probe the killing of at least six civilians by the military on 01 August 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Tshabangu, who was the last witness who testified before the Motlanthe Commission hearing in Bulawayo on Friday, 26 October 2018, said the state was responsible for the killings as it equipped the army and not ZANU PF.<\/p>\n<p>Tshabangu also claimed that Mnangagwa was innocent, saying his decision to appoint the Motlanthe Commission showed that he had nothing to hide.<\/p>\n<p>He also claimed that Mnangagwa was not in full control of the government, but was being undermined by some people within ZANU PF. <b>ZimLive<\/b> quoted Tshabangu as saying:<\/p>\n<p>They tried to kill him in Gwanda using ice cream and on June 23, a bomb exploded at a ZANU PF meeting at White City.<\/p>\n<p>Some people in his party are working with powerful estate actors to discredit him.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on Tshabangu\u2019s remarks in 2018, political commentator Davis Laque, said the controversial political activist is \u201ca tortoise on a lamppost.
