Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), the main opposition party in Zimbabwe, has said 30 years in prison given to Pius Mukandi alias Jamba for killing Moreblessing Ali is almost equivalent to that of a cattle thief. The mandatory minimum sentence for a person who steals a cow in the absence of mitigating circumstances is 9 years. In a statement seen by Pindula News, the CCC party which is led by Nelson Chamisa said:<\/p>\n

JUSTICE FOR MOREBLESSING ALI: It\u2019s disheartening to note that Pius Jamba, the murderer of Moreblessing Ali, was only sentenced to 30 years in prison, a sentence that is almost equivalent to that of a cattle thief. This is unacceptable. We stand with Moreblessing Ali\u2019s family and demand that the regime in Harare take immediate action to ensure that justice is served.<\/p>\n

Court Update: Pius Jamba Admits Killing Moreblessing Ali<\/b>
\nMukandi Makes U-turn And Denies Killing Moreblessing Ali, Judgment Postponed<\/b><\/p>\n

Ali, a CCC activist from Chitungwiza, was kidnapped and killed between May 24 and 11 June 2022. Her decomposing body was found dumped in a well in Nyatsime.<\/p>\n

Ali\u2019s body was found on June 11, 2022, when Mukandi\u2019s mother noticed a strong smell coming from the decomposing body in the well. A postmortem conducted on June 14, 2022, at Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare, could not determine the cause of Ali\u2019s death. However, the forensic pathologist concluded that strangulation might have been the cause, and Ali was dismembered after her death.
\nMukandi was arrested on June 16, 2022, while he was on the run in Chidamoyo, Hurungwe, in the Mashonaland West Province. He voluntarily showed the police how he kidnapped, assaulted, and killed Ali. He also led them to the scene where he dismembered her body and showed them the knife he allegedly used. Mukandi also led the police to recover Ali\u2019s cell phone, jacket, trousers, shoes, and pants, which were presented as evidence.<\/p>\n
