Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>Iranian Defence Minister Mohammad-Reza Gharaei Ashtiani has expressed Tehran\u2019s readiness to enhance friendly relations with African states, especially the \u201cindependent and revolutionary\u201d country of Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n

Local media reports that he made the statement in a meeting with visiting Vice President of Zimbabwe, Constantino Chiwenga in the Iranian capital Tehran.<\/p>\n

Ashtiani highlighted Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi\u2019s visit in July 2023 to Harare and an upcoming trip by Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa to Tehran, noting that the interactions underscored the significance both nations placed in enhancing bilateral relations.<\/p>\n

According to him, following the victory of Iran\u2019s 1979 Islamic Revolution, Africa has gained a special position in the country\u2019s foreign policy.<\/p>\n

During the talks, the Iranian defense minister slammed the West for adopting a \u201cdouble standard\u201d approach in combating terrorism and for remaining silent about Israel\u2019s killing of Palestinians, especially children, in Gaza.<\/p>\n

The Zimbabwean vice president said Israel\u2019s attack against Palestinians was indicative of the West\u2019s double standards and contradictory policies.<\/p>\n

He condemned Israel\u2019s attack on the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Syria\u2019s capital Damascus early April in which seven Iranians, including two veteran commanders, were killed.<\/p>\n

Pointing out that both his country and Iran were under Western countries\u2019 sanctions, Chiwenga emphasized that Iran was among the partners with which Harare was ready to expand its defense cooperation and economic relations.<\/p>\n
