{"id":94179,"date":"2024-05-09T10:41:20","date_gmt":"2024-05-09T08:41:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/monica-mutsvangwa-says-charges-against-son-neville-fabricated"},"modified":"2024-05-09T13:52:15","modified_gmt":"2024-05-09T11:52:15","slug":"monica-mutsvangwa-says-charges-against-son-neville-fabricated","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.cc\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/monica-mutsvangwa-says-charges-against-son-neville-fabricated","title":{"rendered":"Monica Mutsvangwa Says Charges Against Son, Neville, Fabricated"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>Women\u2019s Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Minister Monica Mutsvangwa has said the charges of illegal foreign currency trading against her son, Neville, were fabricated.<\/p>\n<p>Neville was arrested on Wednesday at his Mt Pleasant home in Harare by detectives from the CID commercial crimes unit on allegations of contravening the Exchange Control Act by illegally trading in foreign currency.<\/p>\n<p>On his WhatsApp status on Monday, Neville posted a message stating \u201c18.75\u201d which was interpreted by some as an advertisement of the street rate for the ZiG to the United States dollar.<\/p>\n<p>Some reports suggest that the post triggered Mutsvangwa\u2019s arrest.<\/p>\n<p>In audio circulating on social media platforms, Neville\u2019s mother, Monica, is heard saying the charges were cooked up. She said:<b>Latest itel S24 <\/b>(128GB)<b> $124 (<\/b>108MP camera<b>)<\/b><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s definitely political victimisation because my son doesn\u2019t trade in foreign currency, he doesn\u2019t trade in ZiG so I don\u2019t know what it is and why it had to wait for me to be out of the country. It appears it was timed to coincide with my absence.<\/p>\n<p>According to <b>ZimLive<\/b>, this is not the first time that Neville has made headlines for the wrong reasons.<\/p>\n<p>He was twice arrested for sexual offences. In the first instance, he allegedly raped a woman in Harare, and in the second instance, he allegedly tried to rape a second woman in Mutare. He was never convicted.<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, police raided Neville\u2019s office at 3 Sanfenand Flats on Fife Avenue in Harare where he was allegedly conducting illegal foreign currency deals. He was away but police found US$200,000.<\/p>\n<p>Four detectives allegedly conspired with Mutsvangwa\u2019s workers to under-declare the money found on the premises by seizing US$40,000 instead of the full amount.<\/p>\n<p>It was alleged that by the time they got to the police station, the money had gone down to US$20,000.
