{"id":952,"date":"2019-01-04T14:54:14","date_gmt":"2019-01-04T14:54:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/zimbabwe\/?p=952"},"modified":"2019-01-04T14:54:14","modified_gmt":"2019-01-04T14:54:14","slug":"zimbawe-worse-than-africa-as-a-whole-on-sdgs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.cc\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/zimbawe-worse-than-africa-as-a-whole-on-sdgs","title":{"rendered":"Zimbawe worse than Africa as a whole on SDGs:"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ZIMBABWE has performed worse than Africa as a whole on almost all sustainable development goal (SDG) outcome indicators such as health and education, the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) has said.<span id=\"more-3096224744010603\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In its latest report titled: Building a new Zimbabwe targeted policies for growth and job creation, AfDB said Zimbabwe scored extremely low compared to other African countries in as much as SDGs were concerned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn sum, the comparison of Zimbabwe and the rest of the Africa shows that Zimbabwe has performed worse than Africa as a whole on almost all SDG outcome indicators and that this result is consistent with the evolution of development drivers, including the prioritisation of consumption over investment and weak policies and institutions,\u201d the report read.<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsd-1578330541\" class=\"newsd-2nd-advert-incontent\">\n<p>\u201cWeak policies and institutions prevent high spending on education and health from yielding stronger performance in these areas. To generate the growth needed to improve well-being and reduce poverty, Zimbabwe must close its infrastructure gap,\u201d AfDB said.<\/p>\n<p>The SDGs cover social and economic development issues, including poverty, hunger, health, education, global warming, gender equality, water, sanitation, energy, urbanisation, environment and social justice.<\/p>\n<p>They reaffirm the need to achieve sustainable development by promoting economic development, social inclusion, environmental sustainability and good governance, including peace and security.<\/p>\n<p>But the AfDB said Zimbabwe has been falling behind other African countries on infrastructure-related indicators, access to water, sanitation and electricity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cZimbabwe\u2019s declining rankings in education indicators are underpinned by unchanged or declining enrolment, intake, and completion in the country, while the median for Africa increased noticeably,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsd-1197328099\" class=\"newsd-2nd-advert-incontent-250\">\n<p>Recently, Finance ministry officials told Parliament that Zimbabwe\u2019s economy needed to grow by 7% in order to meet the SDGs.<\/p>\n<div class=\"relpost-thumb-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ZIMBABWE has performed worse than Africa as a whole on almost all sustainable development goal (SDG) outcome indicators such as health and education, the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) has said.
