{"id":95856,"date":"2024-06-27T21:16:34","date_gmt":"2024-06-27T19:16:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/jameson-timba-75-ccc-activists-denied-bail"},"modified":"2024-06-27T23:24:50","modified_gmt":"2024-06-27T21:24:50","slug":"jameson-timba-75-ccc-activists-denied-bail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.cc\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/jameson-timba-75-ccc-activists-denied-bail","title":{"rendered":"Jameson Timba, 75 CCC Activists Denied Bail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>Citizens\u2019 Coalition for Change (CCC) politician and former senator, Jameson Timba, and 75 other party activists were on Thursday, June 27, denied bail by the Harare Magistrates Court.<\/p>\n<p>The CCC activists are facing charges of participating in a gathering with the intent to promote violence, breaches of peace or bigotry as well as disorderly conduct.<\/p>\n<p>Allegations are that on 16 June 2024, at around 2 PM, police received information that an unsanctioned gathering was underway at a house in Strathaven, Harare to take part in an unlawful demonstration.<\/p>\n<p>Police officers proceeded to the residence to investigate and on arrival, they enquired about the purpose of the gathering.<\/p>\n<p>The accused persons allegedly became hostile and riotous and threw stones at the police and their vehicle, forcing them to call for reinforcements.<\/p>\n<p>It is alleged that two police officers were injured during the melee and the police vehicle was also damaged.<\/p>\n<p>The accused persons were only arrested after the police resorted to tear smoke.<\/p>\n<p>The CCC activists were remanded in custody to 10 July 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, the court granted US$100 bail to one of the accused individuals, Ndapuwa Shaun Timba, who is Timba\u2019s son.<\/p>\n<p>One of the accused persons was a 17-year-old minor, who the court remanded into the custody of their guardian.<\/p>\n<p>Another accused individual showed signs of potential mental health challenges.
