Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>eMedia announced the launch of its Openview OV512 decoder, which features a built-in Wi-Fi receiver that will enable viewers to access additional premium content.<\/p>\n

The decoder comes with a new remote feature – a dedicated button for on-demand streaming content and a “home” function that the service provider promises will provide an enhanced and intuitive user experience.<\/p>\n

The content library that the new decoder gives viewers access to is packed full of local and international shows and movies with the option to pause, rewind, and fast-forward on-demand content in crystal-clear picture quality and HD compatibility.<\/p>\n

Openview is SA\u2019s first free-to-air satellite service owned by eMedia with a variety of TV and radio channels. The decoder is purchased as a once-off cost and has no monthly payments.<\/p>\n

The service counts 3.5 million homes in South Africa in its ecosystem.<\/p>\n

News24 reached out to eMedia to find out about the ease of set up for existing customers and what this means for them.<\/p>\n

eMedia said: “Our OV512 decoder is designed for simplicity. For existing Openview customers, it\u2019s plug-and-play: follow the easy activation steps and start watching. For new customers, they must ensure that they have a working IS20 satellite dish pointing northeast, plug in the decoder, and follow the activation steps.”<\/p>\n

Customers looking to stream content on-demand from the new decoder will need an active internet connection, as the decoder is installed with a built-in Wi-Fi receiver.<\/p>\n

The OV512 decoder is priced at R799 and those who do not have a satellite dish will need to contact an installer for pricing on the satellite dish and installation cost.<\/p>\n

eMedia powers down its Power Up! channel <\/b><\/p>\n

Openview also recently announced that it would be discontinuing its Power-Up! channel (channel 114 on Openview) from Monday, 8 July 2024.<\/p>\n

The channel was launched during load shedding to allow viewers to catch up on the shows they may have missed during South Africa’s rolling blackouts.<\/p>\n

South Africa has marked more than 100 consecutive days without load shedding and counting.<\/p>\n
