{"id":99521,"date":"2024-10-14T12:34:23","date_gmt":"2024-10-14T10:34:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/zimsec-transporters-unpaid-for-2023-gig"},"modified":"2024-10-14T14:37:21","modified_gmt":"2024-10-14T12:37:21","slug":"zimsec-transporters-unpaid-for-2023-gig","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.cc\/zimbabwe\/all-news\/zimsec-transporters-unpaid-for-2023-gig","title":{"rendered":"Zimsec transporters unpaid for 2023 gig"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Zimbabwe. <\/strong><\/span>THE Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) has allegedly failed to pay some service providers for vehicles hired to transport examination papers last year.<\/p>\n<p>Zimsec contracted vehicle owners via the Central Mechanical and Equipment Department (CMED) to transport exam papers between October and November.<\/p>\n<p>The vehicles were hired at a rate of US$152 per day to deliver examination papers for Grade Seven, Ordinary and Advanced Levels to various centres.<\/p>\n<p>This was after Zimsec had introduced a new exam delivery strategy to secure question papers and curb leakages.<\/p>\n<p>According to vehicle car owners, they were expecting to be paid in the United States, at least US$4 000, for car hire services.<\/p>\n<p>However, NewsDay last week heard that the Zimsec has failed to honour the contracts with some vehicle owners claiming that they were paid in drips and drabs in local currency.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll that we want is our money,\u201d said one disgruntled individual who hired out his vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>Zimsec spokesperson Nicky Moyo, however, said they paid service providers for the car hire services.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere were no individuals who were directly contracted by Zimsec,\u201d Moyo said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was an organisation which had the tender to supply vehicles to Zimsec. Zimsec made payment to the said organisation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf there are individuals who have queries, they are encouraged to contact the contracting organisation for assistance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, affected individuals said they were being directed back to the examinations\u2019 body for any outstanding payments.<\/p>\n<p>No comment could be obtained from CMED.<\/p>\n<p>Early this year, CMED spokesperson Tarisai Muzorori was quoted saying the examinations body had made part payments for vehicle hire services.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCMED has received part payment for the service rendered to ZIMSEC,\u201d Muzorori was quoted saying.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, the money was disbursed to the support service providers in accordance with the portion received.
